A vacation at SunCampDR introduces you to the real Dominican Republic, away from hectic, over-scheduled, high-priced tourist-only resort hotels and into a welcoming tropical lifestyle with simple pleasures of a dip in the fresh-water river nearby to a walk through Munoz and conversations with local villagers.

You get the opportunity to volunteer at the local school or community center assisting mainly Haitian refugee children and adults. We can help you arrange horseback rides on the beach or into the lush mountainside, group or individual Spanish lessons, forays into the city of Puerto Plata, shopping at local markets, frequent family-style dinners prepared by residents. Everything at SunCamp calms your soul and rejuvenates your spirit. Each guest is welcomed personally by the SunCamp owners and settled into a simply furnished room, studio or apartment. The rates are extremely reasonable and vary by accommodation type. If you’re on a tight budget, you can rent just a room and share a kitchen and bathroom. If you’ll be with us for a while, you might be more comfortable in a one- or two-bedroom apartment. And although our accommodations are simple, perhaps even a little rustic, we also have free WiFi, a plentiful supply of fruit trees, and a helpful friendly staff! You’ll meet other interesting travelers, some who return to SunCamp year after year and others who live there almost full time, but you also have an opportunity to meet many Dominicans from the village nearby or have a built-in social life if you choose to participate in group activities. Of course, you can also choose to simply relax and find what some have deemed their personal “fountain of youth” here at SunCamp. From your appartment at SuncampDR, you can walk to reach the people who need help. We are in nature, at the very end of the village. Currently we lack any government budget or assistance for our numerous projects. We just have dedicated individuals with a desire to reach out and make a difference.

Your room or appartment has an equipped kitchenette for your convenience. Please take a look at the photo gallery for a better idea of the accommodations we offer. You can also look at the different rates according to the different lodging facilities you may choose. We have 1 or 2 or 3 bedroom appartments and studios and rooms.

You get 20% discount starting the second month and this money is applied towards improving the life of the people in needs. Please note that we don't offer luxury suites, as we have a philosophy of voluntary simplicity. You will be enchanted with the peace and tranquility and the full sound of nature! Harmony among the renters is also remarkable and something unique you will remember. You will make friends with whom you will want to keep in touch. For sure, we offer you security in our private compound and the best security is the relationship we have with the local community since 1994.

If you prefer to stay in a luxurious hotel, Muñoz is located across from the Tourist Complex of Playa Dorada and Costa Dorada, Puerto Plata. You can choose from any of the 16 hotels which offer you an enjoyable “All Inclusive’’ stay. We can organize transportation for you to visit the village, to share and give of yourself. It is entirely up to you what you can and will give, that is a personal decision. Our only wish is to encourage motivated people with new ideas to come and try to make this a larger and even more positive initiative.
