Come Along for a Volunteer Vacation Just Like Dorothy who has been coming to SunCampDR for 5 consecutive years.

Every winter months, Dorothy gives her time to help local people. Solidarity and humanitarian values are really part of Dorothy’s life.

She Is kind and helpful not just to the people who are in the Munoz Village, she is always ready to offer advices, information to the new people arriving at SuncampDR. Many times she was the tour guide for a few guests who are here also for a special volunteer vacation.

Dorothy recently took a group to Cabarete beach to see a boat contest. It was a wonderful tropical experience for all.

As part of the volunteer vacation program, Dorothy had the good idea to invite the group of women from the Batey to take their classes at SunCampDR by the river. The class is very private and very effective.

She teaches oral English to the ladies. Her classes are really dynamic and fun for the 13 dedicated students. Knowing English may provide them work in tourism in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The ladies can even walk from their house in the Batey, to the tourist complex of Playa Dorada and beach... If they want to do brades on the beach, for example… How can they work if they don’t know any English?

We invite every senior from abroad to experience this volunteer vacation under the tropics in our typical village, the local community needs more dedicated volunteers like Dorothy. Dorothy has succeeded to make this volunteer vacation a success.

She has set up a good organization of school supplies in our community center, in Munoz.

She helped us distributing the oatmeal and always is generous in purchasing whatever urgency comes up.

She donated the first load of chairs at the community center.

She purchased some food to give away on our last fiesta in the Batey when five of our volunteers were departing. The food distribution was given mostly to Haitians children.

She is also in charge of ordering all books of SuncampDR library which is on the floor where Dorothy lodge at SuncampDR.

Dorothy often goes to the beach and has her weekly fresh fish at Pueblito Beach. She is a regular client at Francois’s restaurant and she takes the public transportation back and forth, even to go to church.

Everybody likes Dorothy and appreciates her for all her humanitarian way of being. Doing so much during a vacation volunteer at the age of eighty three, Dorothy is a model for many, especially to all seniors.
